Bart Magee, Ph.D. I am a licensed Psychologist practicing in San Francisco for the past 25 years. In 2002, I founded Access Institute for Psychological Services and have been its Executive Director since then. I’m driven by the vision that all people have access to comprehensive, holistic, and trauma-informed mental health care. That care should be a right, not a privilege. And for that to happen the mental health profession needs to change to become less medicalized, less individualized, and more socially focused. We must work to train of next generation of mental health providers to serve a diverse community and extend that work to build a more connected and compassionate society. I believe in the power of community activism, which I became involved with during the AIDS years in San Francisco. That involvement inspired me to become a psychologist and solidified my conviction that change happens when people come together around a common purpose. When not at work I enjoy cooking and gathering with my husband and friends and hiking/running/biking in Sonoma County.
